Govt to compensate fire victims: Obaidul Quader

Senior Correspondent: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the government will compensate for the victims of Chawkbazar fire.

Obaidul Quader said this after offering tribute to language movement martyrs placing wreaths on the graves at Azimpur Graveyard on Thursday.

Harsh action will be taken after investigating the incident, he said.

The death toll from the fire at several houses in Chawkbazar area of Old Dhaka has jumped to 70. The fire broke out around 10:40pm on Wednesday at a chemical warehouse on the ground floor of a building named Razzak Bhaban. The flames then quickly spread through several other buildings nearby.
