Govt to plant 30 lakh saplings in memory of martyrs

Hasan Mahmud: The government has announced to plant 30 lakh saplings across the country showing respect to 30 lakh martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War.

Several types of initiatives have been taken already to make the programme successful. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the afforestation campaign on Wednesday (July 18).

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change took the decision in an inter-ministerial meeting on April 2.

According to the decision, the government will conduct the afforestation campaign in June with the participation of 1.17 crore students of primary schools. The forest department took the responsibility to supply the saplings.

Surprisingly it was seen that not only educational institutions but also other organizations and institutions joined the tree plantation campaign.

Already the tree plantation campaign has been started in 20 places across the country, according to the information of ministry of environment and forest.

Environment and Forests Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud said, "We have taken the decision to plant 30 lakh saplings in memory of 30 lakh martyrs. Through the programme, respect will be shown to the martyrs symbolically. Side by side, the step will play a huge role to save our environment."
