Govt's interest expense increases

KMA Hasnat: The interest expense of the government has increased by 15 percent in 2016-2017 fiscal year than that of the previous year.

The government expensed Tk 32,489 crore as interest in 2016-2017 fiscal year.

The expense includes Tk 14,692 crore for bank interest, Tk 16, 046 crore for savings interest and Tk 1,751 crore for foreign interest.

The information was discussed in a meeting of Cash and Debt Management Committee held at the Finance Ministry recently, sources said.
