Staff Correspondent: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has reached a special judge’s court in Dhaka today (Thursday) in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

The BNP chief arrived at the court around 11.24am, confirmed her counsel Md Sanaullah Miah.

Later, Aminul Islam, counsel for accused Ziaul Islam Munna, started placing arguments in favour of him around 11:30am.

The trial procedure is underway in the case at Special Court-5 Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman in Bakshibazar, Old Dhaka.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mosharraf Hossain Kajal, the lawyer for the Anti-Corruption Commission in Zia Charitable Trust graft case sought a seven-year prison term for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and three others.

On August 8, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against the BNP chief and three others of misappropriating Tk3.15 crore from the Zia Charitable Trust Fund.

The others accused in the case are Khaleda’s former political secretary Harris Chowdhury, his former personal assistant Ziaul Islam Munna and former Dhaka City mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka’s personal assistant Monirul Islam Khan.
