Grenade attack verdict: Cocktails hurled at cops

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: Unidentified miscreants hurled four cocktails targeting policemen in front of Meherunnesa Women College in Gopalpur town of the district on Monday night.
Although no one was injured in the incident, it created panic in the town.
The incident took place around 8.30pm.
After the incident, traffic movement was stopped on Gopalpur-Madhupur road.
Gopalpur Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Al Mamun said the attack was carried out ahead of the grenade attack verdict that will be announced on October 10. One of the main accused in the case is local ex-MP and former Deputy Minister of BNP Abdus Salam Pintu and his younger brother Maulana Tajuddin Ahmed.
In order to destabilize the country, local BNP and Jamaat activists gathered there. Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a drive there and sensing the presence of policemen, they fled the spot and hurled cocktails targeting policemen.
When contacted, President of the upazila BNP Jahangir Alam Rubel denied the incident.
