HC declares DU VC panel illegal

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) declared illegal the newly-announced three-member vice-chancellor panel of Dhaka University for appointing a new VC.

The HC bench of justice Zeenat Ara and justice Kazi M Ejarul Haque passed the order on Tuesday.

The court also directed the authority concerned to form Dhaka University senate maintaining proper procedures within next six months. 

Barrister Mostafizur Rahman Khan moved for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Ishrat Jahan stood for the state.

Earlier, on July 24, the High Court halted the activities of the newly-announced three-member vice-chancellor panel of Dhaka University.

The Dhaka University senate nominated a three-member panel, including incumbent DU vice-chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, for appointing a new VC. The other panel members are DU treasurer Professor M Kamal Uddin of international business department and Professor Mohammed Abdul Aziz of theoretical and computational chemistry department.
