HC grants bail to Shahidul Alam

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has granted bail to the noted photographer Dr Shahidul Alam in a case filed against him under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) act.

The court also declared the rule issued in this regard as valid.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal and Justice Bhismadev Chakrabortty on Thursday came up with the order following a petition filed by Shahidul.

Barrister Sarah Hossain moved for Shahidul while deputy attorney general Fazlur Rahman Khan represented the state in the court.

The photographer was sent behind bars on charges of “spreading propaganda and false information against the government”.

Shahidul was picked up by law enforcers on the night of August 5 from his home in the capital's Dhanmondi area during the student protest for safe roads.
