HC issues rule on compensation for Raifa's family

Staff Correspondent: The High Court issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why directives should not be given to provide compensation to the family of Raifa Khan, the two-year-old girl, who at a private hospital in Chittagong due to doctors' negligence.

The HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir issued the rule on Monday following a writ petition filed by Raifa’s father Md Rubel Khan.

The court also asked the respondents to show causes why legal actions should not be taken against the doctors whose negligence led to the death of Raifa.

The health secretary, additional health secretary (hospital), president of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, Max Hospital’s doctor and three concerned doctors have been made respondents to the rule which is returnable in four weeks.

Earlier on June 23, following throat pain, Raifa Khan, 3, daughter of Rubel Khan, was admitted to Max`s hospital on the advice of a doctor. Later, the kid died due to negligence of doctors in the hospital.
