HC issues rule on question of bail to jailer Sohel

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) issued a rule asking the government to explain in four weeks why suspended jailer of Chattogram Central Jail Sohel Rana Biswas, who was arrested with cash and phensedyl last year, should not be granted bail in the money laundering case.
The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM HafizulAlam came up with the rule on Wednesday after hearing a petition filed by Sohel Rana seeking bail.
The court today also refused bail to Sohel Rana in the money laundering case.
Advocate Adnan Rafique appeared for Sohel while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state and lawyer AKM Fazlul Huq stood for the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC).
Police recovered 12 bottles of Phensedyl, Tk 44.43 lakh in cash, FDRs of around Tk 2.50 crore deposited with different banks and bank cheques issued in favour of him totaling around Tk 1.30 crore from his bag, Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik said.
He said, police filed two separate cases with Bhairab Railway Police Station against Sohel under the Money Laundering Act and the Narcotics Control Act.
Sohel filed the bail plea with the High Court on January 5 this year in the money laundering case.
