HC issues rule over journo torture in Madaripur

Staff Correspondent: The High Court on Sunday issued a rule asking the inspector general of police (IGP) to investigate an incident in Madaripur where a journalist was reportedly tortured.
An HC bench comprising Quazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order on a suo moto move following a report published in the daily newspaper.
The court also asked the authorities concerned of the government to explain why legal action should not be taken against the persons who were responsible for torturing the journalist.
Home Ministry secretary, IGP, Dhaka Range DIG, Madaripur Police Super, Kalkini Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Kalkini police station OC have been made respondents to the rule.
