Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) will pass an order on Sunday (May 27) on three separate petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking bail in three separate cases.

The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan set the date for the order on Thursday afternoon.

Advocate Khandakar Mahbub Hossian and Advocate Zainul Abedin stood for Khaleda Zia while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Md Bashirullah represented the state in the court.

Among the three cases, two were filed in Cumilla on charge of vandalising vehicles on January 25 in 2015 and killing seven persons and injuring 25-26 persons by setting fire on a passenger bus at an area of Chauddagram on February 2, 2015.

The third case was filed by Raihan Faruki Imam with a Narail court on September 24, 2015, for making a statement about the number of freedom fighters and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Khaleda made the comments on December 21, 2015, at a meeting at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka where she said that Sheikh Mujib did not want independence of the country, he wanted to be the prime minister of Pakistan.

Khaleda Zia also said that there is a controversy over the number of freedom fighters.
