HC orders disposal of Shahidul’s bail plea by Tuesday

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) directed the lower court concerned to dispose the photographer Shahidul Alam’s bail petition within Tuesday.

An HC bench comprising Justice Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman passed the order on Monday.

Barrister Sarah Hossain moved for Shahidul Alam while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state.

Sarah Hossain said that a bench of the High Court felt “embarrassed” to hear the bail petition of noted photographer Shahidul Alam on September 4. Later, the Chief Justice formed the new bench to hear the petition.

On August 5, the photographer was picked up by law enforcers from his home in the capital's Dhanmondi area on charge of spreading propaganda and false information. The following day, the police filed a case against him under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
