HC orders disposal of woman repression cases in 6 months

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has published its full verdict by directing the authorities concerned to form monitoring cell for taking action against the responsible persons if the cases filed under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act are not disposed within six months.

The verdict was published after Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan signed in it on Thursday.

There is a provision to dispose cases filed under the act within six months. There is also a provision in the act to forward a report regarding the failure in disposing the cases to the Supreme Court (SC). In this regard, the Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal will have to forward the report to the SC in a month mentioning the reasons behind the failure in disposing the cases.

At the same time, public prosecutors (PP) and investigation officers (IO) of the cases will have to submit the same report to the government.

But judges, PPs and investigation officers are not following the instruction. Following the matter, the HC has directed the registrar general of the Supreme Court to form the monitoring cell.
