HC orders to take control over 384 grabbed ponds

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) on Tuesday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned why directions would not be given for proper management to restore 384 ponds which have already been grabbed illegally.

The court also directed Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur to submit a report after taking over the illegally grabbed and filled up water bodies and ponds of the city within 30 days.

An HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the suo moto order following a report published in a national daily newspaper.

The HC ordered to submit a list of all water bodies and ponds of the city.

Secretaries of Local Government Division, Ministry of Land, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Ministry of Home, Inspector General of Police (IGP), and Gazipur DC have been asked to reply the rule.

The national daily published the report saying that the ponds and water bodies of the city are being illegally grabbed and filled up.
