Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has rejected bail for Sohel Rana, owner of the collapsed Rana Plaza which resulted in the biggest industrial disaster of the world, in a graft case.
In the case, a lower court sentenced Sohel Rana to three years in prison for not submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Justice Abu Bakar Siddiquee's bench rejected the bail plea for Sohel Rana on Wednesday, following opposition of ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan.
The bench however admitted his appeal against the lower court verdict and called for the case record from the lower court.
Sohel Rana was sentenced to three years simple imprisonment in a corruption case filed by a Dhaka Court back in August 29, 2017. The court also fined him Tk 50,000, and an additional three-month jail in default.
The ACC on May 21, 2015, lodged a case against Sohel Rana on charge of accumulating wealth illegally. ACC filed the case with Ramna Police Station.
