HC verdict in Zubair murder case Jan 23

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) on Tuesday fixed January 23 for pronouncing its verdict on the death reference and appeals in sensational Zubair Ahmed murder case in 2012.

The HC bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam set the date for delivering the verdict after concluding the hearing on the death references and appeals.

Earlier, the court started the hearing on January 2.

Zubair Ahmed, 23, then an undergraduate student of the English department at Jahangirnagar University, died at United Hospital in Dhaka on January 9, 2012, hours into his abduction and torture on campus by his political opponents on January 8.

On February 8, 2015, a Dhaka court sentenced five people to death and six others to life imprisonment for the murder.

Later, the accused filed separate appeals with the HC challenging the lower court verdict.
