HC verdict on mobile court stayed till July 2

Staff Correspondent: The Supreme Court (SC) has stayed an HC verdict, that declared illegal of conducting mobile court by the executive magistrates, till July 2.

A seven-member bench of the Appellate Division of SC, headed by the Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, passed the order on Sunday.

Earlier, the state filed a petition seeking stay of the High Court order in this regard.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state while Barrister Hassan M S Azim moved for the writ petition in the court.

On May 11, the High Court delivered verdict declaring the mobile courts conducted by executive magistrates illegal and unconstitutional.

The HC bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das pronounced the verdict on the day.
