Staff Correspondent: The stay order of the High Court (HC) on the trial proceedings against the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in four separate sabotage cases filed with Jatrabari and Darussalam police stations will remain effective for the next two weeks.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order after adjourning the hearing of the four petitions, filed by the government seeking stay on the High Court order on Tuesday.

Senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Sakib Mahbub stood for Khaleda while Additional Attorney General Momtaz Uddin Fakir represented the government in the court.

Khaleda's counsel Barrister Sakib Mahbub confirmed that the trial proceedings against the BNP chief in the four separate sabotage cases will remain stayed for the next two weeks following the order passed by the chamber judge's court.

Following separate bail petitions filed by Khaleda, the HC on April 13 stayed the trial proceedings against her in the four cases and also issued four separate rules asking the government to explain why the proceedings of the cases should not be scrapped.

Among the four cases, three were filed with Darussalam Police Station and another case was filed with Jatrabari Police Station in 2015 during anti-government agitation enforced by the BNP-led alliance.
