‘Haor disaster due to climate change’

Staff Correspondent: Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud has said that due to the impact of climate change, there has been a disaster in the haor areas.

The minister said this while speaking at a press briefing at his Secretariat office on Sunday.

The minister said, “With the effect of climate change, excessive rainfall has occurred before the normal period and it is the main problem”.

Asked about the Water Development Board’s negligence in this regard, he said, “Water Development Board did not have to do anything. However, we are investigating whether there was any irregularity in the construction of the dam. If any irregularities are reported, no one will be given a discount”.

Anisul Islam Mahmud said his ministry has nothing to do at this moment but learn lessons from the catastrophe in the haor areas.
