Hawkers want 50pc of footpaths

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh Hawkers Union demanded 50 percent of city footpaths to continue their business.

The leaders of the organization came up with the demand at a press conference in the capital on Saturday.  

Speakers in the programme urged the authority to allow them 50 percent city footpaths on humanitarian ground.

They said hawkers have family too. So, the authority should start rehabilitation first then eviction.  

Making list of hawkers, identity cards can be issued for city hawkers, the demand.

Convener Abdul Hashem Kabir presided over the programme while, organizer Ruhin Hossain Prince, Hawkers union advisor Sekendar Hayat and other attended there.

Earlier on January 11, Dhaka South Mayor Sayeed Khokon announced the restriction on the hawkers of Dhaka South City Corporation prohibiting them to sit on city-roads and footpaths for business purpose during office-hours.

The DSCC authorities started executing the decision since Sunday (January 15) in Gulistan and its adjacent areas.
