Heavy rush at launch terminal

Staff Correspondent: Thousands of homebound passengers rush towards the city’s launch terminal Sadarghat to celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival with near and dear ones.

Though there were not much crowd at the launch terminal on Thursday morning, people started to reach there around the noon.

Many of launches left the terminal before the scheduled time to avoid excessive crowd of people.

It was learnt that more than 80 launches left the terminal in the morning. A dozen of launches will also start their journey in the night. Special launch service is also ready to carry the excessive passengers.

However, Bangladesh Inland Transport Authority (BIWTA) said special service has yet not been used to carry the passengers.

Alamgir Kabir, joint director (traffic) of Dhaka river port, said, “Every year, we have to carry excessive passengers during Eid. This time, we have also all preparations. Though there were much pressure in the morning, many of people started to gather at the terminal around noon. Nearly a hundred launches are plying on different routes.”
