Holding Tax: Two mayors served legal notices

Staff Correspondent: A Supreme Court lawyer on Sunday served legal notices upon two city corporation mayors for increasing holding tax without prior notice.

The lawyers Eklas Uddin served the notices to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Anisul Haque and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Thursday.

According to the notices, Local Government (City Corporation) (Amended) Act, 2009, there is a rule that tax will be issued announcing notice. But, the corporation increased holding taxes without any public hearing or notice.

The lawyer served the notice seeking stay order on imposed new taxes of City Corporation within next 24 hours.
