Desk Report: Eid-ul-Azha, the second greatest religious festival of the Muslims, is being celebrated acorss the country on Saturday, with due solemnity and traditional enthusiasm.
The main Eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah on the High Court compound at 8:00am.
However, the country’s largest Eid congregation is traditionally held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj.
Hundreds of thousands of Muslims in different Eid congregations are expected to offer prayers, seeking divine blessings, peace and progress.
Well-off Muslims sacrifice cows, goats or other animals, keeping a portion to feed themselves and distributing the rest among friends, relatives, neighbours and the poor.
It commemorates the great sacrifice by Prophet Ibrahim (AH).
President MD Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages wishing the people peace and happiness on the occasion.
