Special Correspondent: Four state-owned banks and Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide government officers and employees with home loan at five percent interest.

In presence of Finance Minister AMA Muhith, the Sonali, Agrani, Janata, and Rupali Bank signed the MoU with BHBFC.

Finance division additional secretary Md. Jafar Uddin and the managing directors of four banks signed the MoU.

Acting Finance Secretary Abdur Rouf Talukder said the government employees will be eligible to apply seeking home loans with a low-interest rate from four state banks from Oct 1.

It will take about two years to bring all the government employees under this loan scheme.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith said five percent housing loan is the landmark step of the present government. All government employees were worried for their accommodation in the past. From now they need not to be worried, he said.

“We are still a little backward in the housing sector. Now we are giving emphasis on the housing sector to bring all the people under this accommodation scheme. But it will take some time,” minister added.
