Staff Correspondent: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has assigned investigation officers (IO) to look into a case filed against former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on charge of misuse of power and corruption.
ACC's Director Syed Iqbal Hossain has been assigned as the investigation officer of the case and Director General of the organization Khan Md Nurul Amin as the monitoring officer.
An ACC top official confirmed this to risingbd.com on Wednesday.
Earlier, ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud said, “The documents in the case filed against former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on charge of misuse of power and corruption have reached the Commission. Investigation into the case has started. First Information Report (FIR) of the case has reached. Now we will assign investigation officers to look into the case.”
"The investigation officer will scrutinise the matter and there is no scope to go out of the purview of law,” he added.
Barrister Nazmul Huda, a former BNP minister, filed the case against Sinha with Shahbagh Police Station on September 27. The case was filed accusing SK Sinha of misusing power and indulging in corruption.
Nazmul Huda alleged that Sinha had demanded Taka 3.25 crore as bribe after
calling him in his room.
Shahbagh Police Station has sent the case to the ACC as the graft case is
under jurisdiction of the national anti-graft watchdog.
Huda was former communication minister of the then BNP-led government and was a standing committee member of the party. He is currently the chief of Bangladesh National Alliance (BNA).
