I was kidnaped for ransom: Mubashar

Staff Correspondent: North South University (NSU) teacher Mubashar Hasan Caesar has opined that he was kidnaped for ransom.

“They might have thought that I am a rich person”, adding that he said, “I  heard the kidnappers talking about money often”.

He said this to journalists after coming out of his residence with his father, uncle and sister on Friday morning.

He said, “The captors used to argue with each other whether they would kill me or not. It seemed to me that one of the kidnappers had gone missing. They used to ask me whether any big gun is my friend”.

“The kidnappers kept me locked in a dark room. There was a window but they had sealed it. There was a dirty mattress in the room they locked me in. I slept on that,” said Mubashar.

“There was another room. I could overhear them talking. They used to serve me food brought from cheap hotels”, he said.

Mubashar said they also snatched Tk 27,000 from him.

Mubashar said he was picked up by abductors from Dhaka’s Rokeya Sharani while he was returning home on November 7.

Stating that he had hired an Uber on his way back home, Mubashar told the reporters: “The abductors stopped my car and asked me to get down from the vehicle saying that it was a stolen car. After getting down, I noticed that a microbus was standing in front of the Uber.”

He said the group of people sprayed something on his face from behind after he got down from the Uber and pushed him inside a microbus.

“I had lost consciousness. Later, I found myself in a dark room.”

Mubashar returned home early hours of Friday 44 days after he went missing on November 7.
