Staff Correspondent: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwari said those who were behind the attack on eminent writer Prof Zafar Iqbal will be brought to justice and their roots will be destroyed finally.
The IGP came up with the remark while addressing a programme as the chief guest at Jagannath University in the capital on Monday.
"We have started investigation to find out those who else were involved in the attack. As we could not interrogate the arrestee Faizur due to his illness, we’ll find out the culprits behind the attack," he said.
"I strongly condemn the attack on Zafar Iqbal who also belongs to a police family. I wish him good health," the IGP said.
Police are trying to raise a social movement against militancy mentioning that one lakh Alems have issued their statements against militancy, he added.
"Faizur Rahman, who was arrested in connection with the attack on the noted writer Zafar Iqbal, has been personally influenced by the fanaticism," he cited.
I hope people from all walks of life will come forward to root out militancy from the country, said the IGP.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia, who was also present at the programme, said, "The attack on Zafar Iqbal was not carried out by an organised militant group as we have already destroyed the organised militant network. There is nothing to be worried."
At present, there are two national enemies in Bangladesh. One of them is drug and the other is militancy. We have to raise a social movement to root out them, the DMP commissioner added.
