IPU assembly ends through Dhaka declaration

Staff Correspondent: The five-day long 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) assembly ended on Wednesday with the declaration of 'Dhaka Communiqué'.

A total of 18 proposals were accepted in the Dhaka Declaration.

IPU president Saber Hossain Chowdhury came up with the announcement at Hall of Fame (ground floor, Bangabandhu International Conference Center) on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, Chief Whip ASM Firoz and others attended the programme.

Some 1,348 delegates, including 650 parliament members, 53 speakers, deputy speakers and 209 women parliamentarians of 131 countries took part in the event.
