Staff Correspondent: “Nobody has the authority to raise question over the Parliament. If the Parliament is immature, then those holding judge’s seats are also immature,” said Awami League Presidium Member and Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed.
The AL veteran leader made the comment while addressing a discussion as the chief guest at the auditorium of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) in the capital’s Topkhana Road on Wednesday afternoon, marking the National Mourning Day.
Citing the issue of lowering Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the observation of the Supreme Court verdict on 16th Amendment to the Constitution, Tofail said, “When it is said that the country did not emerge as an independent nation under a single leadership, then nothing can be said except expressing hate.”
“When the court says, the Parliament is immature, then I can also say those holding judge’s seats are also immature. I’m sorry to say like that. It is we who have enacted the Constitution. I have been an MNA at 27. I’m among the members who formulated the Constitution. We have become parliament members for several times. Nobody has the authority to raise question over the Parliament because this Parliament has been constituted in a fair, democratic and constitutional way,” he added.
