Staff Correspondent: The three-day first phase of Biswa Ijtema will end on Sunday with the Akheri Munajat on the bank of the Turag River at Tongi in Gazipur.

Hafez Mohammad Zubayer Akheri, the Imam of Kakrail Mosque in Dhaka, is expected to conduct the Akheri Munajat.

The third day activities of Ijtema started through the sermon of Bangladesh's Maulana Engineer Anisur Rahman. Later, Maulana Abdul Matin will deliver a sermon before Akheri Munajat.

Thousands of devotees are attending the congregation. Innumerable foreign devotees from other countries joined the first phase of the Ijtema.

Additional security measures have been put in place ahead of today's Akheri Munajat.

Gazipur police super (SP) Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid said that special steps have been taken to ensure better traffic management. Restrictions have been imposed on vehicular movement on some roads including Abdullahpur, Ashulia, Kamarpara, Bhogra Bypass and Nimtol of Tongi area to ensure easy movements of devotees.

A total of 15 shuttle buses are plying in Bhogra bypass and Nimtoli area to carry devotees, he added.

The second phase of the Tongi Ijtema will begin on January 19 at the same venue and it is scheduled to end with Akheri Munajat (final prayers) on January 21.

Tablig Jamaat has been organizing the Ijtema at this venue since 1967. However, the Ijtema is held in two phases since 2011 to ease the accommodation problem.
