India to import 36 BD products without test

M A Rahman: India will import 36 Bangladeshi products without test to verify standard in the country's laboratory.

However, the products will have to be approved by Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).

Meanwhile, India government has already issued notification for 21 of the products.  A new notification will be issued soon for the rest 15 products by the Indian authorities.

The decision was taken at the joint group of customs meeting between the two countries held on August 23 and 24.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Moinul Khan revealed the news to risingbd.

He said, "Our imported products earlier were tested in India, even after tested by BSTI. It was a long process. Our traders demanded to remove the system.   After a long discussion, India issued notification to import 21 Bangladeshi products on the basis of BSTI test."

"Discussion was also ended over 15 more products. Indian Customs will also issue a fresh notification the products as well," he added.


The 21 products BSTI approved products India will receive without test are: Juice, jam, jelly, marmalade, pickles, chutney, fruit drinks, sauce, tomato  ketchup, fruit syrup, fruit squash, fruit cordial, edible gel, tomato paste, biscuits, chanchur, noodles, instant noodles, water, soft drink powder and carbonated beverage.

The list of new 15 products has not be prepared yet. Customs officials will take the final decision over the products after discussing traders.
