'India won't deviate from Teesta deal promise'

Staff Correspondent: Expressing hope, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud said Indian authorities would not deviate from their repeated pledge to sign an agreement on sharing waters of Teesta river.

The Minister made the opinion while addressing a programme at Sagar-Runi auditorium in DRU in the capital on Sunday.

He said the decision on discussion during upcoming India visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is not finalized yet but work in progress in this regard.

Anisul Islam Mahmud said that both Teesta water sharing issue and Padma Barrage project are important for Bangladesh.

"We hope, they (Indians) will not deviate from their pledge to sign the Teesta agreement," he added.

DRU president Shakhawat Hossain Badsha presided over the programme where DRU general secretary Morsalin Nomani and others attended.
