Infozillion gets nod to offer MNP services

Staff Correspondent: The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has given a licence to Infozillion BD Teletech to offer Mobile Number Portability (MNP) services, which allow mobile users to change their operators without changing numbers.

The final approval in this regard was given on October 1 and the Bangladesh-Slovenia joint venture has been given 30 days to pay the licence acquisition fee, said BTRC chief Shahjahan Mahmood.

The BTRC chairman came up with the long-awaited decision at a news conference held at BTRC Bhaban in the capital's Ramna on Tuesday afternoon.

Mahmood said the service is currently available in 72 countries. The service is being implemented four years after the proposal was initially approved in June 2013.

Users can switch operators within 72 hours of charging Tk 30, he said. They will have to wait for 90 days to change again.
