Injury scare for Tamim Iqbal during practice

Sports Desk: Bangladesh's injury woes have only deepened after Tamim Iqbal suffered an injury during practice, Cricbuzz reported on Friday.

The left-hander came out from the nets after sustaining a blow on his left wrist during his batting session and was immediately rushed to the dressing room along with physio Thian Chandramohan. As a result, his availability for Bangladesh's opening encounter of the world cup, against South Africa, is in doubt.

"It's too early to say anything specific but we will have an x-ray and if there is a fracture, then he won't be available (for the match against South Africa). But if that is not the case, then we can hope he will be available for the opening game," selector Habibul Bashar, who is accompanying the team, said on Friday.

Tamim also missed the only warm-up match against India as he had pain on his thigh muscle.

The attention is also on Mohammad Saifuddin, who is recovering from a back problem. According to BCB officials, Saifuddin is expected to take painkillers in order to make himself available for the match.

The Bangladesh camp is also sweating over the fitness of Mashrafe Mortaza, Mustafizur Rahman and Mahmudullah, who have been troubled by hamstring, calf and shoulder issues respectively.

Mahmudullah did not bowl against India as he is yet to completely recover from his shoulder problem. Rubel Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan have also been laid low by niggles.

Bangladesh will take on South Africa in their opening game on June 2.
