Internet week begins

Desk Report: To make the internet service available at the grassroots level, the two-day internet week began on Tuesday  on the premises of Dhaka College in the capital. 
  
Information and Communication Technology Department’s acting Secretary Subir Kishore Chowdhury inaugurated the week as the chief guest.

“Vision 2021 of Digital Bangladesh which was set by the government will not be possible without popularising the use of internet to everyone,” Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) President Mustafa Jabbar said.

National internet week is focussing on few things -- build infrastructure of the internet at the grassroots level, create awareness among people, expansion of the internet in upazila level and make internet price affordable for all.

A good number of e-commerce companies, mobile application developers, web portals, device companies and other internet related services organisations  are participating in the event.

The Department of Information Communication Technology under the ICT division and BASIS are jointly organising the programmes.

The government and BASIS has been organised the first internet week across the country in 2015.
