Investigation should be started into intelligence failures: HC

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) said that a probe should be started into the intelligence failures about the BDR mutiny in Dhaka.

The court came up with the observation while delivering it's the verdict BDR carnage on Monday.

A three-member bench led by Justice Md Shawkat Hossain concluded the observations with a seven-point recommendation on appeals of 152 convicts filed against the death penalty in the Pilkhana BDR mutiny case.

The observations include-

--Law-enforcement agencies should not get involved in commercial activities, like the BDR’s ‘Dal-Bhaat Karmashuchi’. The court also asked the government not to take 'Operation Dal Bhat' like programme in the future.

--Senior officers should maintain a professional relation with subordinates in line with BGB laws. The judge advised regular discussion within the force in that regard.

Later, the court postponed the reading out of the verdict till Monday morning.

Earlier on April 13, the HC bench kept the case waiting for verdict after hearing arguments on the death reference and appeals in the case for 370 days.

The death reference and the appeals were filed with the HC months after a Dhaka court announced the verdict on November 5, 2013.

The trial court sentenced 150 BDR soldiers and two civilians to death and jailed 160 others for life for their roles and involvement in the massacre.
