JMB suspect arrested in Malaysia

International Desk: A suspected member of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), a banned militant outfit in Bangladesh, was arrested in Malaysia, local media reports.

According to the report, the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division arrested the 25-year-old Bangladeshi, who worked as a temporary teacher at a religious school in Gombak, conducting raid in Shah Alam town on July 4.

However, 18 more people were also arrested in raids conducted in Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor between July 4 and Aug 30.

Of the arrestees, 11 were foreigners while eight were Malaysians.

Quoting Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP) of the country, The Strait Times reports, "The arrested Bangladeshi is suspected of being a member of Jamatul Muhahideen Bangladesh, which is an Islamic State (IS) affiliate."

"The suspect entered Malaysia on Sept 4 last year under the pretext of furthering his studies," he added.
