Jhikargachha upazila chairman jailed for 6yrs

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has sentenced Sabira Sultana, the current chairman of Jhikargacha upazila of Jashore, to six years in jail on charges of acquiring false information and wealth earned through illegal ways.

Judge Shahidul Islam of Dhaka Special Court-7 handed down the verdict on Thursday.

The court also confiscated Tk 10,078,135 of Sabira Sultana in favour of the government treasury.

Sabira Sultana is presently on the run. The court issued an arrest warrant against her.

ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Salaam confirmed the matter.
