Jihad’s family receives Tk 20 lakh compensation

Staff Correspondent: Family of Jihad, who died falling down a 300-foot well shaft in the capital's Shahjahanpur in 2014, has received Tk 20 lakh compensation.
Fire Service and Railway authorities paid the money through cheque and pay order in compliance with the court order.
Lawyer of the writ petition Barrister Abdul Halim and Jihad’s father Nasir Uddin confirmed the news to the reporters on Sunday.
Barrister Abdul Halim said, “I heard that Fire Service gave Tk 10 lakh through pay order while Railway authorities gave a cheque of the same amount. August 14 was set for hearing in the case. I could not make it clear if I do not get affidavit in this regard by August 14.”
Jihad’s father Nasir Uddin said, “We received the cheque on August 6. We submitted it to our – (me and my wife) joint account opened with Uttara Bank, Motijheel Branch on Thursday. We will go to the bank to know whether the money was cashed.”
When contacted, Brig Gen Ali Ahmed Khan, director general of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, Jihad’s family was paid in accordance with the court order.
Jihad fell into an unprotected well shaft while playing with other children in Shahjahanpur Railway Colony on December 26, 2014.
