Joint working group formed to repatriate Rohingyas

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh and Myanmar formed a joint working group to start repatriation of Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh.

Delegations from both the countries joined a meeting at the state guesthouse Meghna and formed the committee on Tuesday. 

A total of 30 members from the two countries will join Joint working group. Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque will lead Bangladesh side in the group. Besides, Myanmar side will be headed by Permanent Secretary at Myanmar foreign ministry Myint Thu.

After the meeting, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali conveyed the update to the media.



He said that joint working group has been formed. Rohingyas will be sent back to Myanmar soon.

In reply to a question, he said, "We two countries are working to repatriate Rohingyas. I am hopeful over the deal."

Earlier on Monday evening, a member delegation led by Myanmar’s Permanent Secretary Myint Thu reached Dhaka.
