Joy to open emergency services 999 Tuesday

Secretariat Correspondent: Prime Minister's ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy will inaugurate the emergency services across the country using toll free phone number 999 on Tuesday.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy will formally inaugurate the services at a function at Osmani Memorial auditorium in the capital tomorrow morning.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan kamal will address the function as the chief guest while State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Junaid Ahmed Palak as the special guest.

People are currently using the 999 service to get emergency services from police. But after expansion of the service, people from every corner of the country will get 24/7 emergency services from police, ambulance and fire service by just dialing at 999 over both mobile phone and telephone.

The extended emergency services using the 999 phone number has been made likewise number 911 in the USA, 999 in the UK, and 112 in the EU.

The ICT desk of the police headquarters has developed its design. Community safety awareness workshops have already been organized across the country to make people aware about usage of the services.
