Joyasen Gupta wins Sunamganj-2 by-polls

Staff Correspondent: Dr Joya Sengupta, wife of former veteran leader of the ruling Awami League Suranjit Sengupta, has won the by-polls of Sunamgaj-2 (Dirai-Shalla).
Returning officer declared the unofficial result on Thursday night.
She defeated rebel candidate Sayed Ali Mahabub Hossain. Joya Sengupta bagged 96,260 votes with the symbol of 'Boat' while her nearest candidate Sayed Ali got 42,170 votes with the symbol of 'Lion'.
Earlier, the voting began around 8:00am Thursday and will continue till 4:00pm in the afternoon.
After the death of former AL advisory member and minister Suranjit Sengupta this parliamentary seat became vacant.
