Khaleda Zia gets bail for 4 months

Staff Correspondent: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has got bail for four months in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in which she was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order on Monday noon.

The HC bench was scheduled to pass the order on Sunday, but the court deferred the date today as the case record from the lower court did not reach to the HC on Sunday.

On March 8, the High Court fixed March 11 for passing orders regarding the bail petition of Khaleda in the graft case.

On February 8, a special court convicted former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the graft case with Ramna Police Station in July 2008, accusing the six of misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore that came from a foreign bank as grants for orphans.
