Staff Correspondent: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear before a makeshift court today (Tuesday) in the capital's Bakshibazar to seek bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.
“She will appear before the court around 11:00am,” Sanaullah Mia, one of Khaleda's lawyers, said.
Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman will hear the arguments. Khaleda will place statements in self-defence.
On November 30, the same court issued an arrest warrant for the former prime minister after cancelling her ad-interim bail as she failed to appear before it on time.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case for embezzlement of over Tk 2.1 crore by forming a “fake” trust which existed only on paper in 2008.
In 2011, the anti-graft watchdog filed another case, accusing four persons, including Khaleda Zia, on charges of abusing power in setting up Zia Charitable Trust.
