Khaleda gets bail in two graft cases

Staff Correspondent: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has got bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the makeshift court in the capital's Bakshibazar granted the bail on Tuesday.

Khaleda appeared before the makeshift court and sought bail in the two graft cases.

On November 30, the same court issued an arrest warrant for the former prime minister after cancelling her ad-interim bail as she failed to appear before it on time.

The ad-interim bail was granted on October 19 as she had surrendered before the same court and sought bail.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case for embezzlement of over Tk 2.1 crore by forming a “fake” trust which existed only on paper in 2008.

In 2011, the anti-graft watchdog filed another case, accusing four persons, including Khaleda Zia, on charges of abusing power in setting up Zia Charitable Trust.
