Khaleda will be freed breaking the chains: Fakhrul

Senior Correspondent: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned that the party chairperson Khaleda Zia will be freed through breaking the chains of prison after a mass upsurge.

The BNP leader said this after opening a photo show at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital on Friday.

Nationalist Research Centre arranged the programme marking the 34th anniversary of Khaleda Zia’s taking of BNP’s leadership.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “We want immediate release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. We will bring her out of jail breaking the chains through mass upsurge.”

Urging for a national consensus, the BNP stalwart said, “We will resist the monstrous and corrupt’ regime through a mass upsurge and establish rule of law in the country.”

He said, “We called upon people from all walks of life and the political parties to forge a national unity to ‘restore’ people’s rule and democracy by defeating the current ‘monstrous’ regime.”

He also urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to look at the Malaysian national election as it has manifested that public opinion cannot be resisted by an undemocratic and corrupt government.

“I call upon the illegal Prime Minister to look at Malaysia to know that public opinion cannot be resisted even by applying all the strength when a regime indulges in corruption, obliterates democracy and gets isolated from people,” he said.

“There’s no instance of staying the High Court’s bail by the Supreme Court in such cases. The government is plotting to keep her in jail to hold another lopsided election,” he added.
