Khaleda's bail hearing on July 31

Staff Correspondent: The court in Dhaka fixed July 31 for next hearing in the petitions of Khaleda Zia that rejected her bail prayers in two cases filed over “undermining” the national flag and celebrating her “fake” birthday on August 15.

Earlier, Khaleda Zia's lawyers Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder and Zia Uddin Zia on Wednesday submitted two petitions with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court Judge KM Imrul Kayes.

Masud Ahmed Talukder said, on June 18, the bail petitions of Khaleda Zia were submitted with Dhaka CMM court. Later, the court rejected the bail petition on June, 21.

"And we submitted two petitions with the sessions court challenging the legality of lower courts' orders. After the hearing, Judge KM Imrul Kayes fixed July 31 for hearing the bail petitions," he said.

On November 3, 2016, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami League organisation, filed a case with a Dhaka court against Khaleda Zia, accusing Khaleda and her late husband, former president Ziaur Rahman, of “undermining” the country's map and national flag.

On August 30, 2016, another case was filed by Gazi Zahirul Islam, former joint general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists, with another Dhaka court, accusing Khaleda of celebrating her “fake birthday”.
