Senior Correspondent: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's younger brother Shameem Iskander has written a letter to the home ministry seeking better treatment for her at United Hospitals with family cost.

Khaleda Zia's adviser Bijon Kanti Sarker dropped the letter at the Ministry on Tuesday noon.

Shameem Iskander told in the letter, “My elder sister Khaleda Zia has been kept in the Old Dhaka central of the capital’s Nazim Uddin Road. She has been suffering from different diseases for long days. She is not getting scope to receive necessary treatment in jail. As a result, her physical condition has deteriorated seriously in the jail.”

“Four of her (Khaleda) personal physicians entered the jail with permission of the jail authorities and examined physical conditions. They conveyed that she (Khaleda) had suffered mild stroke on June 5 which may be risky in future. So, she immediately needs to take to the specialized United Hospitals Ltd in the capital for her medical check up and better treatment,” he wrote in the letter.

He said in the letter, “We are giving assurance that all expenses of her treatment will bear her family. Therefore, I request to take her to United Hospitals for advance treatment with family cost.”

Khaleda was supposed to be taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Tuesday, but the schedule has been cancelled as she refused to go to the hospital.

She wants to be taken to United Hospitals Ltd in Dhaka, according to Inspector General (IG) of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin.
