'Khaleda's punishment will be upheld in appeal too'

Staff Correspondent: Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's five years conviction in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case given by the trial court will also be upheld in appeal.

He said, "I believe the five years conviction to Khaleda Zia will be upheld in appeal too."

The AG came up with the statement while talking to the reporters at his Supreme Court (SC) office on Wednesday.

Mahbubey Alam said, "Khaleda Zia's lawyers are trying to put their liability on us (the state). It is unfortunate."

"I did not present any political statement during Khaleda Zia's bail hearing. I just came up with legal arguments," he added.
