Khaleda's self-defence statements of 2 cases deferred

Staff Correspondent: The self-defence statements of two cases filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have been deferred.

The court will hear on May 18 self-defence statements in connection with the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

Judge Abu Ahmed Jomadar of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-3 fixed the date on Thursday after Khaleda Zia's lawyer Sanaullah Mia had sought time.

On the other hand, Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah's Court fixed April 27 to place self-defence statements in Zia Orphanage graft case.

On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda, of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources abusing power.

The Zia Orphanage graft case was filed by the ACC on July 3, 2008, with Ramna Police Station for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore that was received as grants for orphans via a foreign bank.
